"Rocking stuff here with the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District revealing juicy black cherries, currants, smoke tobacco, leather, and cedar pencil notes. It's medium to full-bodied, ripe, plump, and rounded on the palate, with a plush, opulent, mouthfilling style. There's solid underlying structure that should emerge once some of this baby fat fades away."

Tasting notes

The 2023 Stags Leap is typical of this region showcasing bright, high-toned aromas of black cherries, gravel, cocoa nib and a savory vinous character. The palate is powerful yet lush, with round, opulent, and very concentrated tannin. The depth of these tannins leads into a decadent finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate. This wine will age gracefully for years to come.

Vineyard notes

Stags Leap District

Situated between the Stags Leap Palisades rock formation and the Napa River on the eastern side of Napa Valley.

Marine Breeze

Proximity to the San Pablo Bay is pivotal in the climatic nuance. Evening marine breezes usher in lower nighttime temperatures, helping retain acidity.

Rugged Terrain

Our vineyards find their roots at the eastern end of the appellation. Volcanic parentage has laid the foundation for deeply complex wines.

Wine Facts

We source our fruit from a small enclave within the Stags Leap District. The vineyard is bounded on the east by the warming Stags Leap Palisades, on the west by rolling hills and the Napa River, on the north by the Yountville Cross Road, and on the south by flatlands. The dramatic diurnal shifts, emanating from the San Pablo Bay influences, ushers in cool nighttime air, which helps the grapes retain their tell-tale fresh acidity. The wine possesses bright red berry and plum flavors, with a vibrant and lengthy core of tannin.

Vintage Notes

The 2023 growing season was all about patience. A very long, wet winter replenished the soils and filled our reservoirs. Cooler spring weather delayed budbreak and the start of the growing season by several weeks. Late spring saw moderate warmth and led to substantial canopy growth, as well as a healthy crop load on the vines. Mild, warm temperatures created perfect ripening conditions throughout the summer and early fall. The longer hang time allowed the fruit to reach optimum ripeness, and resulted in a superb vintage that is fresh, full of flavor, with great balance and fruit density.
