"The 2017 ‘Kathryn Hall’ is a stunning, seamless Cabernet Sauvignon that was sourced from a host of Napa Valley vineyards including their estate Sacrashe Vineyard. Mocha, creosote and blueberry compote tones combine with suggestions of sweet pipe tobacco on the nose. The wine has a gorgeous sense of elegance, as the ethereal texture effortlessly makes this glide across the mid-palate. Layers of creme de cassis, blueberry pie, tar and menthol tones all are marvelously woven together on the palate. With great length, weight and poise, this 2017 ‘Kathryn Hall’ is not only sensational to enjoy in its youth but will be one built for long-term aging."

Tasting notes

The 2017 Kathryn Hall is deep, dark ruby in color and elegantly balanced with layered aromas of concentrated blackberry, freshly turned earth, and a hint of warm, spicy oak. The palate is fruit-forward with underlying notes of rich cocoa and leather. Layers of black fruit, nutmeg, cassis and brooding earthy notes are abundant. Supple, seamless tannin abounds, and the wine finishes with an incredible dark fruit feed-back that lasts several minutes.

Vineyard notes

Sacrashe Vineyard

Located just above the eastern edge of the Rutherford appellation at 790 feet, Sacrashe provides a profound expression of what hillside Cabernet Sauvignon can be.

Challenging Soil Conditions

Extremely limiting volcanic tuff soils are mixed with rock and lie over a structure of bedrock. These challenging conditions yield fruit that is rich, dense, earthy, and opulent.

Unique Climate

The cooling effects of Lake Hennessey, combined with southern sun exposure, result in additional berry complexity that is reflected in the wine's dense fruit flavors.

Vintage Notes

Our 2017 harvest wrapped up early fall following summer heat spurts and a growing season that saw significant rain throughout the state, ending a five-year drought. The season began with rainfall that refilled reservoirs and replenished soils. Harvest began early at a normal pace, and then progressed rapidly during a heat wave in late August and early September. Temperatures cooled in mid-September, slowing the harvest pace and allowing grapes to ripen gradually. This is a strong quality vintage.
